The Cavalier King Charles is descended from toy spaniels seen in sixteenth through eighteenth century paintings. King Charles II was the inspiration for Cavalier King Charles spaniels as he owned and was painted with similar small dogs. Cavaliers have a white spot on their foreheads referred to as the Kiss of Buddha or Kissing Spot.
