The Cavalier King Charles is descended from toy spaniels seen in sixteenth through eighteenth century paintings. King Charles Spaniels were the subject of an edict from the King that the dogs could not be prohibited from any public place including the houses of Parliament. Cavaliers have a white spot on their foreheads referred to as the Kiss of Buddha or Kissing Spot. About half of all Cavaliers have a congenital blood disorder characterized by an insufficient level of platelets, and may develop bleeding and clotting problems.
